Abstract

Background: Guava leaves contain alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins and anti-mutagenic and antioxidants that can be beneficial for skin beauty, such as moisturising, brightening the skin, reducing redness, irritation, acne and refreshing and eliminating unpleasant odours. Objectives: This study aims to determine whether guava leaf extract (Psidium guajava L) and white glutinous rice (Oryza sativa glutinosa) can be formulated into a body scrub with variations of emulsifiers and to determine whether the body scrub preparation made with two variations of emulsifiers is physically stable through organoleptic tests, pH tests, spreadability tests and skin irritation tests. The type of research used is experimental research in the Laboratory. Method: The extraction used is the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Results: The study showed that guava leaf extract (Psidium guajava L) and white glutinous rice (Oryza sativa glutinosa) with variations of emulsifiers can be formulated into a body scrub cream with good results of organoleptic physical evaluation tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, irritation tests and fulfilling the test requirements on the three formulations made. Thus, the scrub preparation is said to be safe for use. Conclusion: that guava leaf extract (Pisidium guajava L) and white glutinous rice (Oryza sativa glutinosa) can be formulated into a body scrub cream with variations of emulsifiers. From the results of physical evaluation tests carried out on three formulations with variations of emulsifiers, all formulas can be said to be good because the tests that have been carried out meet good physical stability evaluations, including organoleptic testing, pH measurements, spreadability measurements and skin irritation tests, where all formulations successfully meet the specified criteria.
