Abstract

Background: Purple miana leaves (Coleus scutellarioides (L.) Benth) are traditional medicinal plants that have long been used by the community because they have various benefits, one of which is as a source of natural antioxidants. This plant contains various bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids and tannins that function as antioxidants. Antioxidants themselves are compounds that can delay or prevent the oxidation process by free radicals that have the potential to inhibit body cells and trigger various diseases. Objectives: The study aims to identify the vitamin C levels of purple miana leaves cultivated in the Liabuku region. Method: The determination of vitamin C levels was implemented using an iodimetric titration design. The form of the study used was a laboratory experiment. Miana leaf samples were processed into filtrate, then qualitative and quantitative tests were carried out. To ensure the presence of vitamin C, the sample was first tested qualitatively, which was indicated by the disappearance of the iodine color to clear. While the quantitative test was carried out using the iodimetric titration method using 0.01 N iodine solution as a titrant and starch as a benchmark that determines the end point of the titration when the solution turns blue. Results: The analysis showed that the purple miana leaf sample contained 730.4 mg of vitamin C per 10 grams of sample. Conclusion: The study shows that purple miana leaves have great potential as a natural source of vitamin C that is beneficial for the health of the wider community.
