Phytochemical Screening And Phenolic Compound Analysis Of Cashew Leaf Extract (Anacardium occidentale)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cashew leaves (Anacardium ocindentalle) contain bioactive compounds such as phenolics and flavonoids that have potential as natural antioxidants. Phenolic compounds commonly found in plants are phenolic quinones, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, simple monocyclic phenols, polyphenols, and phenolic quinones. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the level of phenolic compounds in ethanol extracts of cashew leaves from two different locations, namely Lombe and Tolandona. Method: The determination of cashew leaf extract was dissolved with methanol and placed in a test tube, then 3 drops of FeCI3 reagent were added. The determination of total phenolics was carried out using the Folin-Cioocalteu method with gallic acid as the standard. Results: The results showed the presence of phenolic compounds in the cashew leaf extracts, indicated by a color change from light green to dark green. The total phenolic content of cashew leaf extract from Lobe waa was 0.1232%, whilw that from Tolandona was 0.0941%. Based on these results, both samples contained relatively high levels of phenolic compounds. Conclusion: Cahew leaf extracts (Anarcardium occidentale) from two different locations in central Buton Regency were found to contain phenolic compounds, as indicated by the color change to dark green. The sample from Lombe had the highest phenolic content 0.1232, whilw the sample fro Tolandona contained 0.0941%.
