Post-Publication Discussion
- Corrections
- Reporting Errors
Authors, readers, reviewers, or other interested parties who identify an error in a published article are encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief through the official contact information provided on the Jurnal Sains dan Kesehatan (JSIKA) website.
Reports should specify the nature and location of the error and include supporting evidence where available. Errors may relate to text, data, tables, figures, references, methodology, statistical analysis, research findings, ethical information, or other aspects that may affect the accuracy or interpretation of the published article.2
- Assessment of Errors
The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the authors and, where necessary, peer reviewers, editorial board members, or independent experts, will assess the reported error and determine its impact on the accuracy, interpretation, validity, and integrity of the published work.
For articles involving clinical research, human participants, animals, health data, laboratory research, or other sensitive research materials, the assessment may also consider relevant research ethics requirements and the potential implications of the error for research participants or public health.
- Issuing Correction Notices
When a significant error is confirmed, JSIKA may publish a formal correction notice:
A corrigendum for an error originating from the author(s). An erratum for an error introduced by the journal during the editorial or production process.
The correction notice must be citable, clearly describe the error and the correction, and be electronically linked to the original article. The original article will generally remain available but will include a clear notification that a correction has been published.
Correction notices will be published without a separate publication fee.
- Reporting Errors
- Retractions
- Initiation of the Retraction Process
Concerns that may warrant retraction will be investigated in accordance with JSIKA's Research and Publication Misconduct Policy and applicable publication ethics guidelines
Reasons for retraction may include, but are not limited to, major errors that invalidate the findings, fabrication or falsification of data, serious plagiarism, unethical research practices, invalid or fraudulent research data, serious authorship misconduct, duplicate publication, or other circumstances that substantially compromise the reliability of the published work.
Authors will normally be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations, subject to the circumstances of the case.
- Retraction Notice
If retraction is considered necessary, JSIKA will publish a formal retraction notice subject to the following requirements:
The notice will be clearly titled "Retraction: [Original Article Title]." The notice will identify the retracting party, which may be the journal, the authors, or both, as appropriate.
The notice will provide a clear explanation of the reasons for retraction and distinguish, where possible, between honest error and research misconduct
The notice will be electronically linked to the original article on the JSIKA website and in relevant bibliographic or indexing systems where technically possible.
The original article will remain part of the scholarly record whenever possible but will be clearly marked as retracted in its online and downloadable versions.
Relevant indexing and abstracting services will be notified of the retraction where appropriate.
A retraction is intended to correct the scholarly record and alert readers that the findings or content of the article should no longer be relied upon as valid scientific evidence.
- Initiation of the Retraction Process
- Expressions of Concern (EoC)
- Issuing an Expression of Concern
JSIKA may issue an Expression of Concern (EoC) when the editors have substantial and well-founded concerns about the reliability, validity, ethical compliance, or integrity of a published article, but the investigation is ongoing or sufficient evidence for a definitive decision is not yet available.
An Expression of Concern may be particularly appropriate where concerns relate to research data, ethical approval, informed consent, participant safety, clinical findings, laboratory results, or other matters that may require investigation by an author's institution or research ethics committee.
- Content and Linking
An Expression of Concern will be published as a citable notice and linked to the relevant article. It will clearly explain the nature of the concerns without presenting unverified allegations as established facts.
- Follow-Up
When additional evidence becomes available or the investigation concludes, JSIKA will review the notice and determine whether it should be updated, replaced with a correction or retraction, or withdrawn.
- Issuing an Expression of Concern
- Addenda
- Purpose
Authors may request publication of an addendum when additional information is essential to the understanding or interpretation of a published article but does not constitute a correction of an error in the original work.
An addendum may be appropriate when important additional methodological information, clarification, supplementary research context, ethical information, or other relevant scholarly information becomes available after publication.
- Assessment and Publication
Requests for addenda will be assessed by the Editor-in-Chief and may be subject to peer review or editorial evaluation. If accepted, the addendum will be published as a separate citable notice and electronically linked to the original article.
- Purpose
- Article Removal or Replacement in Exceptional Circumstances
- Article Removal
In exceptional circumstances, an article may need to be removed from the online journal, for example, when its continued availability would violate legal rights, infringe copyright or privacy, expose confidential health or personal information, or create a serious and immediate risk of harm.
Where removal is necessary, JSIKA will publish an explanatory notice to the extent permitted by applicable legal and ethical requirements. Removal will be considered only when less restrictive measures, such as correction or retraction, are insufficient.
- Retraction and Replacement
In exceptional cases, an article retracted because of an honest error may be considered for replacement if the authors subsequently correct the errors and produce a scientifically sound version of the work.
Any replacement must be clearly identified as a new or corrected version, explain the publication history, and provide an explicit link to the original retraction notice.
The decision will be made by the Editor-in-Chief based on the available evidence and applicable publication ethics guidance.
- Article Removal
- Article Versioning
JSIKA recognizes the importance of maintaining a transparent and reliable publication history.
When an article is corrected, updated, or otherwise amended after publication, the journal will, where technically possible, maintain a clear connection between the original article and the subsequent version or editorial notice.
Any substantive changes to the published article will be documented through an appropriate correction, retraction, addendum, or other editorial notice.
The journal will not obscure or remove the publication history of an article merely because a correction or other post-publication action has been issued.
- Appeal and Complaint Process
Authors or other relevant parties who believe that an editorial decision concerning correction, retraction, Expression of Concern, addendum, or article removal has been made in error may submit a formal appeal to the Editor-in-Chief.
The appeal should provide a clear explanation of the grounds for the appeal and include relevant supporting evidence.
Appeals will be considered objectively and may be reviewed by an independent editor, editorial board member, or appropriate external expert when necessary.
The submission of an appeal does not automatically suspend a correction, retraction, or other editorial action that has already been issued, particularly when the action is necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record or research participants.
Complaints concerning editorial procedures or publication ethics will be handled in accordance with JSIKA's applicable publication-ethics policies and the principles of fairness, confidentiality, and transparency.
- Ensuring Discoverability of Amendments
JSIKA will take reasonable steps to ensure that post-publication amendments, including corrections, retractions, Expressions of Concern, and addenda, are accurately recorded, indexed, and linked to the relevant articles in bibliographic databases and abstracting services where available.
journal will maintain transparent documentation of editorial decisions and ensure that readers can identify the current status of a published article.
Where technically possible, correction and retraction notices will receive their own persistent identifiers and will be clearly linked to the affected article.
- Editorial Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board of Jurnal Sains dan Kesehatan (JSIKA) are responsible for implementing this policy consistently and fairly. Editorial decisions concerning corrections, retractions, Expressions of Concern, addenda, and article removal will be based on available evidence, the seriousness of the issue, the potential impact on the reliability of the scholarly record, and applicable publication ethics standards.
Through this policy, Jurnal Sains dan Kesehatan (JSIKA) reaffirms its commitment to scholarly transparency, responsible academic discussion, research integrity, protection of research participants, and the ongoing accuracy and reliability of medical and clinical sciences, medical records sciences, public health sciences, midwifery sciences, and pharmaceutical sciences and related fields.
