Generative AI Policy

  1. Disclosure of Generative AI Use in Manuscript Preparation

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Bisnis (JEKO) requires authors to disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation and writing. This policy applies to manuscripts submitted to JEKO in the fields of economics, business, management, accounting, finance, taxation, entrepreneurship, and related disciplines.

The following guidelines specifically address the use of AI in the writing process and do not directly regulate the use of AI tools for data analysis, statistical processing, or the generation of research insights.

  • Permitted use:Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may be used to improve the readability, grammar, language, and clarity of a manuscript. Their use must not replace the authors’ intellectual contributions, critical analysis, or scholarly judgment.
  • Human supervision and responsibility:AI tools must be used under human supervision. Authors must carefully review, verify, and edit all AI-generated content because such tools may produce information that appears authoritative but is inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or biased. Authors retain full responsibility and accountability for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of their manuscripts.
  • Authorship:Generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship entails intellectual contributions, accountability, and responsibilities that can only be fulfilled by human authors.
  1. Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process

Authors who use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation must include a disclosure statement at the end of the manuscript upon initial submission.

The declaration will be included in the published version of the article and must be placed in a separate section immediately before the References section.

The required format is as follows:

Section Title: Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process

Statement:

“During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE OF USE]. Following the use of this tool/service, the author(s) carefully reviewed, verified, and edited the content as necessary and accept full responsibility for the final version of the published article.”

Authors must provide an accurate description of the AI tool or service used and its purpose. The declaration should reflect the actual use of the technology and must not misrepresent the extent of AI assistance.

This declaration is not required for basic digital tools that do not generate substantive content, such as standard grammar and spelling checkers or reference management software. If no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the writing process, no declaration is necessary.

  1. Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

To safeguard the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, protect authors’ intellectual property rights, and maintain the integrity of the peer-review process, JEKO prohibits reviewers and editors from using generative AI or AI-assisted tools, including ChatGPT, to process, upload, analyze, or evaluate confidential manuscript content during peer review and editorial assessment.

Reviewers and editors must conduct their evaluations independently, professionally, and in accordance with the journal’s confidentiality requirements and publication ethics policies. They must not disclose unpublished manuscript content, author information, research data, or confidential editorial correspondence to external AI systems.

This restriction does not prevent the use of administrative tools that do not expose confidential manuscript content or influence scholarly evaluation, provided that their use complies with JEKO’s confidentiality and data protection requirements.

JEKO will continue to monitor developments in responsible AI use and may revise this policy when appropriate, particularly when reliable and compliant technologies become available.

  1. Authors’ Accountability

The use of generative AI does not transfer responsibility for scholarly content from the authors to the technology provider. Authors remain fully accountable for the originality, accuracy, proper attribution of sources, research integrity, and ethical compliance of their submissions.

Failure to disclose AI use when disclosure is required, or the use of AI in ways that violate this policy, may result in requests for clarification, manuscript revision, rejection, or further action in accordance with JEKO’s publication ethics policies.

JEKO is committed to promoting the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI technologies while preserving human scholarly judgment, academic integrity, and the quality of scientific publications.
